GLOSSARY
ANATOMICAL FEET SECTION
Elaborate 3-dimensional construction of the footbox. It envelops the feet so that the tips of the toes do not press the lining onto the outer shell.
ANTI-SNAP TAPE
A textile band that prevents the zipper from getting stuck (prevents snagging).
BOX BAFFLES
Baffle construction of the down sleeping bag with small vertically stitched baffles.
COLD SPOTS
Spots on apparel or sleeping bags where the lining and the shell come directly into contact and where insulation is practically non-existent.
DIFFERENTIAL CUT
Liner and outer shell of the sleeping bag are cut to a different width. The outer shell is cut larger than the inner liner to allow sufficient loft space.
DISCOVER, DRY INSULATION SYSTEM COVER
Patent pending system guaranteeing that the sleeping bag dries much quicker (essential in long term use and at cold temperatures). A second outer shell made from water resistant, breathable fabric can be turned inside out through a zip-opening. This way condensed water or ice can easily be removed from the sleeping bag. The remaining humidity dries up quickly.
DOUBLE ZIP SYSTEM
A second internal zip allows a reduction of the volume (useful in extreme cold).
FILL POWER
The loft of down insulation per unit of weight (the volume of a certain amount of down). 700 cuin means that 30 g of down can fill 700 cubic inches. Attention: Some manufacturers use the US measurement of 1 ounce (1 oz = 28.14 g). This seems to yield a better result.
G-LOFT®
Proprietary synthetic insulation, produced in-house, with a certified quality control.
GORE-TEX®
Wind- and water-proof, moisture transporting membrane of micro porous ePTFE (elongated polytetrafluorethylene). Apparel and bivy bags made of GORE-TEX® must be completely water-tight (sealed seams). For our bivy bags we use GORE-TEX® Arid Lite Air, a unique laminate for which no extra PU film is necessary. Unlike the GORE-TEX® membrane that is used for clothing this construction is windproof but air-permeable.
GORE WINDSTOPPER®
Wind proof, highly moisture transporting membrane made of micro porous ePTFE (elongated polytetrafluorethylene). It is nearly water-resistant but it is not seam sealed.
H-BAFFLE
Simple but functional sleeping bag construction. Lining and outer shell are combined by additional horizontal intersection net tapes.
LADIES´MODELS
These models are specially tailored to the female anatomy and insulation needs.
LOFT
is how fluffed up the sleeping bag is. It is also the easiest way of telling the quality of the filling. Simply put the sleeping bag on the ground and check how high it is.
MATEABLE
We have a left and right version for the majority of our sleeping bags. Can be combined to create a double sleeping bag.
OFF-SET
Sandwich construction: 2 or multiple layer quilted construction with synthetic fibre sleeping bags which have off-set stitching to avoid cold spots. Additional air pockets are cre-
ated between the layers of insulation. The differential cut strengthens this effect.
PERTEX®
Brand name of nylon fibres for cold weather apparel and sleeping bags. State-of-the-art-quality, light and sturdy but rather expensive.
POLYCOTTON
Light blended fabric made from cotton and polyester. Combines the functional-ity of polyester with the natural feel of cotton.
QUILTED SEWING
Lining and outer shell are put together with just one seam (instead of using walls between the shells) to avoid shifting of the filling. Very functional, simple and cost-effective when used with two or multiple layer construction when quilt lines are offset, but with cold spots when used with only one filling layer.
Ripstop Light fibre construction by which thicker or double threads are woven into the material at regular intervals to improve tear and abrasion resistance.
SHELLPROOF
Light polyamide ripstop fibre with a
water-tight breathable hydrophilic polyurethane coating (Hydrostatic head 1000 mm).
SHELLPROOF ULTRA
Ultra-thin and extremely moisture transporting hydrophilic PU coating on Shellproof Ultra fibres. Protects the sleeping bag filling from outside moisture (Hydrostatic head 1500 mm).
SHELLTEX
Down-proof impermeable and breathable polyamide-ripstop fibre primarily used for the outer shell (Hydrostatic head 400 mm).
SHELLTEX ULTRA
In our opinion the best compromise between low weight, down-proof, wear and tear and a comfortable feel.
SHELLTRANS
light, down-proof, soft on the skin polyamide fibre with excellent moisture transporting capabilities; mainly used as a lining.
SILK SATEEN
sleeping bag liner made of silk for a smooth and pleasant slumber.
THERMOFLECT®
A non-woven material steamed with aluminium which reflects the body’s heat inwards. Weighs little, hardly reduces the moisture permeability and improves heat retention.
THERMO-STITCHED DRAFT COLLAR
A tube of insulation that rests around the neck inside the bag to prevent heat loss. It separates the head and body section. An important feature of a high quality sate or the art sleeping bag.
TRAPEZOIDAL BAFFLE
This construction is an upgraded version of the H-baffle construction with slanted intersection net tapes. It is somewhat more complex to produce but provides more warmth. Can be recognized from the outside by the irregular distances between the stitching for the slanted intersection net tapes.
ZIPPER FLAP
A tube filled with insulation that is placed along the zipper to prevent cold spots and drafts – interior single or double tube – optional additional external tube. The most important design feature of a high quality sleeping bag.
