ABOUT US

WE KEEP YOU WARM!
Carinthia is our brand name – and it is the name of the region we come from: Carinthia is the Latin for “Kaernten”. Our home is formed by the Alps, our beloved playground. The mountains inspired us to transfer our expertise from making quality down blankets to the construction of sleeping bags for climbers, adventurers and outdoor geeks, right after the founding of our company in 1948. This is our tradition: at home, in the Austrian town of Seeboden, we develop and produce sleeping bags for the extreme challenges of the Alps, the Himalayan or the Arctic. But we also break down this know-how into a broad collection of sleeping bags for the more civilised use or moderate temperatures. Regardless where you sleep in a CARINTHIA bag – our claim is a promise to you and a challenge for us: CARINTHIA KEEPS YOU WARM.

EUROPEAN QUALITY
We manufacture our products in our own sites in Europe. We strongly believe that this local production is the only way to guarantee and control the highest manufacturing standards you need to provide best quality.

As a family-owned business, we are lucky enough to plan and develop our company’s success on a long-term basis – without obsessively keeping an eye on shareholder value and stock notification. Producing “in the backyard” is an advantage for the product development process as well – it gives us the flexibility to enhance quality and design of the product on a daily basis (that is, if ever necessary). We keep on searching and implementing new sleeping bag solutions for more comfort and safety. A current example for this innovative power is our Dry Insulation System Cover (short: DIScover, patent pending), which you find in our expedition line sleeping bags.

EXPERIENCE MATTERS MORE THAN EN STANDARDS
Sleeping bags sold in Europe ‘must’ be tested according to the standard EN 13537. The reason: consumers should be able to compare temperature ratings. But there’s a catch: the EN 13537 standard is performed with a manikin that does not move and does not sweat. We therefore advise our customers not to blindly trust the EN temperature rating but to take our own rating – based on 45 year of experience – into consideration, too.
