Makalu expedition
At 8,463m Makalu is the fifth highest mountain in the world. Due to the capricious weather and the demands on condition and technology it is worthy of its position among the difficult 8000 m mountains. The long climb to the base camp is a further reason why this 8000 m mountain is seldom chosen.
PARTICIPANTS:
Hermann Trippacher (Expedition Leader), Walter Arnold, Rudi Denk, Franz Fend, Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Siegfried Klettner, Joachim Moritz, Fritz Hangweyrer, Roswitha Trippacher, Herbert Wolf, Karl Watschinger (Doctor).
From the 17th to 53rd day an attempt will be made to reach the peak without extra oxygen following the route taken by the first successful climbers across the northern ridge.
