Akakus Route
In order reach the Akakus mountains in south-westen Libya you have to first cross the Ubari sea of sand. This journey is an experience in itself due tho the hundred meter high sand dunes. Naturally there are no paths along this 300 km route as we would understand the word. It takes a that extra bit of courage to drive up and down the dunes in a Toyota.
The most southern point is the Akakus mountains. In the numerous recesses of the main ridge you can find world-famous rock paintings. The dimensions of the stone portal at Fozigaren are extremely imposing.
