ACROSS THE ETERNAL ICE

The Austrain television channel ORF as well as the German channel ZDF are recreating the historical battle between Amundsen and Scott in the television series “Race to the South Pole”. The skiing legend Hermann Maier is part of the Austrian team. With temperatures of down to -40 degrees the “Hermanator” is relying on insulation from CARINTHIA, a specialist for down apparel and sleeping bags from Seeboden in Carinthia.

100 year have gone by since the Norwegian Roland Amundsen and the Englishman Robert Falcon Scott began their historical race to the South Pole. Today the adventure on the eternal ice has taken on a new form: in December 2010 an Austrian and a German team began the battle. The difficult journey will be shown on ORF and ZDF in a 5-part documentary. “Herminator” is part of the Austrian team.

The skiing legend Hermann Maier is traveling with insulated clothing and sleeping gear from the Austrian down specialists Carinthia. At temperatures down to -40 degrees Maier wore the down overall “Downy Extreme Overall” from Carinthia. He is kept warm in the tent by the ECC Expedition 1200 sleeping bag. It has a comfort limit of about 38 degrees below zero. In addition Maier also had the Explorer Top synthetic fibre sleeping bag with him, which increases the thermal rating by a further 10 degrees. With a comfort limit of -48 degrees the skiing ex-champion was kept warm and came home fit.
